Josh became the first person in his family to earn a college degree when he graduated with a B.A. in English from the University of North Georgia in 2003. He then went on to complete an M.A. in English Education from the University of North Georgia and an M.A. in Classical Languages from the University of Georgia. Josh wrote his Master’s thesis on Homer’s Iliad.

In 2016, Josh decided to change careers because of his dedication to the immigrant community. In 2018, he ran for U.S. Congress on a platform of humane immigration reform. He then decided that the best way to impact the lives of immigrants in a positive way was to obtain a law degree so that he could directly defend immigrants in Immigration Court. While at Georgia State University College of Law, Josh took the opportunity to work in the Immigration Clinic, where he received hands-on experience while working with asylum applicants.

His life experiences led Josh to develop a strong conviction that the immigrant community is a vital, valuable part of our country. His wife, Jennifer McCall, was born shortly after her parents immigrated to the United States from Vietnam, so his 3 children are only one generation removed from the immigrant experience.
